Shaina D. Barnes, PharmD, MBA

CEO & Founder

Shaina Barnes, PharmD, MBA, is a leader in medical affairs content and strategy. Shaina founded SB Pharma Solutions, LLC in 2015 to provide small to mid-sized pharmaceutical companies guidance and support in defining medical affairs operations and help to grow business. Initially opened as a one-person business, SB Pharma Solutions continues to grow in size and service offerings by recruiting top talent.

Shaina is a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with sixteen years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry with over fifteen product launches in infectious disease (ABSSSI, IAI), neurology (epilepsy, movement disorders, migraine, MS), psychiatry (schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder), rare diseases, and men’s health. 

With diverse experience in big and small pharma, as an employee and a vendor, she has perspectives from different sides of the industry. She has led cohesive and capable teams, drafted medical affairs content for launch readiness, and achieves success without being afraid to “break the mold”. She helps her clients achieve success by seeing the big picture and meticulously executing the steps along the way to deliver creative solutions.

As an angel investor vetting and backing startup businesses in biotech and other markets, she regularly observes what companies need for positive growth and scale. Since founding her own business in 2015, Shaina has grown her company from an N of one to a solid team of 7-8 and driven significant YOY growth in revenue since 2018 with solid growth continuing through the first half of 2022.

HEATHER FITZGERALD, PHARMD, BCPS

Director of Medical Strategy

Heather Fitzgerald, PharmD, BCPS, is an experienced medical affairs leader with over 12 years in the pharmaceutical industry, inclusive of medical strategy and tactics as well as successful execution both pre- and post-launch. She provides expertise in leading the development of key strategic documents and scientific resources in addition to ensuring collaboration and alignment across multiple stakeholders. Heather has provided leadership in medical strategy and scientific communications across 8 product launches in neurology (epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease), psychiatry (schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, major depressive disorder), and rare diseases.

Heather earned her PharmD from the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy in Chicago, IL and completed a postgraduate year 1 pharmacy practice residency at The University of Chicago Medical Center.

Hannah VanLaanen, BS, PGDipSci

Director of Operations

Hannah earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the Florida Institute of Technology, and attended graduate school at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Her academic and research focused primarily on neuropharmacology, with experience in Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, and cannabinoid receptor signaling. She is passionate about science communication and outreach and volunteers her time to found and direct multiple science outreach programs.

Hannah joined the SB Pharma team at the beginning of 2018. During this time, she accumulated substantial experience working on on nine AMCP dossiers to date and developing multiple medical information suites, including SRLs, FAQs, slide decks, and more. Her extensive information technology skills contribute to her leading the team in design solutions for clients such as templates, infographics, design guides, and posters. Her subject areas of expertise include all areas neurological - epilepsy, psychiatry, migraine, degenerative diseases - cancer, ABSSSI and antibiotics in general, and rare diseases.

NATASHA WADLINGTON, PHD

Manager of Quality and Training

Natasha has a biological sciences background with a BS in General Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a PhD in Neurobiology from the University of Chicago. Prior to joining the SB Pharma Solutions Team, Natasha used pharmaceutical client assets to create scripts for online content online and e-mail newsletters for healthcare professionals. She trained to perform internal, brand, and MLR-level edits to those scripts while liaising with other departments (production, editorial, account management, etc) to ensure the quality of the client deliverables. 

Natasha uses her broad scientific background and knowledge of technical writing in her work at SB Pharma Solutions. Her services include writing scientific and regulatory documents such as grants, journal articles, standard response letters, AMCP dossiers, and continuing education materials. Natasha also provides quality control for SB Pharma assets and ensures SB Pharma produces high quality deliverables.

Brenee king, PhD

Senior Medical Writer

Brenee holds a PhD in Biomedical Science from the University of New Mexico and an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her educational background focused on cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in cancer biology. Prior to joining SB Pharma Solutions, Brenee worked in an academic setting where she directed a small office focused on student engagement in research, managed several federally funded research projects, and published her work in peer-reviewed journals.
